It's not always easy to come up with new suggestions or good ideas for what kind of entertainment and activities for children that the little ones will appreciate. At Xplora, we would like to help you as parents with inspiration for fun activities with children when the idea tray has run out, and to help create some fun stimulating hours, we have therefore put together a cozy, fun and activity-filled list that both children and adults can participate in together.
25 fun activities with kids
1. Make your own modeling clay
Making your own modeling clay only requires a few ingredients. It's super easy, stimulating, and a really creative thing for kids to do. What you'll need:
4 dl water
2 tablespoons neutral cooking oil
A few drops of household food coloring/caramel coloring
4 dl wheat flour
2 dl salt
2 tablespoons alum or citric acid
How to do it:
Boil the water in a pot and add the oil. Add a few drops of household dye.
Mix the wheat flour, salt and citric acid/alum thoroughly in a large bowl.
Then pour the colored water over the dry ingredients and stir until it forms a nice consistency. Knead the dough. Add more drops of color if you want a stronger color. Store the modeling clay in a tightly sealed container or in a plastic bag.
2. Do a "taste challenge"
Eating is fun and you might like to experiment with your taste buds! Use a blindfold or scarf and let the children taste different things with their eyes closed, such as honey, peanut butter or meringue. Guess what it is! Adults can also join in the activities so that the children can have extra fun.
3. Indoor picnic
Pack buns, juice and snacks, and have a picnic on the floor at home. Lay out a blanket and invite the children's best teddy bears for a cozy dinner, where imagination can really run wild in good company. Remember to bring a book so that you and the teddy bear can tell a fun and adventurous story! One of the more pleasant activities for children that you can do together.
4. Build a cave in the garden or in the forest!
Building a cave in nature is a fun and creative activity with children. Find a good spot in the forest or garden where there are plenty of branches, twigs and leaves. Use large branches as a skeleton for the cave and smaller materials to fill in the walls. A tree can be a good natural starting point to start the cave. Once the cave is built, you can decorate it with flowers to make it extra cozy. It is a healthy and active way to spend time outdoors.

6. Get your body moving - Sing and dance
Do you have a songbird or a dancing mouse in the family? Put on your favorite music and make a dance-stop game or have the coolest karaoke concert or dance together. Don't move in this caliber is one of the more fun activities for children you can come up with!
7. Movie time!
Is the weather grey? Is it raining? Whether it's outside or inside, there are always options! A grey day can be an obvious opportunity to go to the cinema or watch a movie in a cinema experience at home. Find a good movie, make some popcorn and cozy up on the couch. Movies at home also provide opportunities to handle practical tasks in addition to the fun!
8. Record a movie with your Xplora watch!

9. Baking
Baking is fun and educational, helps you practice your child's math skills together, and offers the added bonus of something delicious to eat afterwards.
10. Make beaded plates
Bead boards are one of the more fun and creative activities with children there is. If you want to finally do something that strengthens your child's fine motor skills in a fun way, the bead board is an obvious candidate! Find beads in different colors and create fun designs such as animals, patterns or figures. When the design is finished, it can be ironed (with the help of an adult) and used as decorations, gifts or key rings. A perfect activity for the whole family!
11. Go on an excursion with the kids
A trip to the forest is a good opportunity to combine activities with the children in the form of play, learning and fresh air. In the forest you can play hide and seek and enjoy a cozy day near a shelter with the little ones. You can also end the day with snobrød, biscuits and marshmallows, if there is a possibility to light a fire! Remember to follow the rules and have an adult control the fire.
11. Bath time
Fill the bathtub with bubbles, bath bombs and toys. Turn the bath into a spa with face masks and cucumbers for the eyes.
12. Visit a new playground or nature playground
Explore new forests or playgrounds and make a list with the children of places they would like to visit!
13. Dress up
Change clothes and let the kids style you. It doesn't matter much, but if you're sitting inside with a princess, you can expect that even the most tearful will be surprised at how impressive the little ones' creativity can be once they get started with clothes and make-up! A really fun and experience-filled activity with lots of fun in the bag.
14. Make a big Lego project | A classic at Dad's!
Lego is not only one of the most fun activities for children, but it is also a well-known hobby and the perfect activity to get dad involved in something fun! Gather all your Lego bricks and let your imagination do the rest. It can be anything from a gigantic tower to a city with roads and buildings inspired by the Lego movie!
15. Board games or card games!
Gather the family and play your favorite board games. Whether it's ludo, kalaha, fish, war or many of the other options in the category, there's something for everyone for a day indoors. Activities with the kids don't always have to take place outdoors if the weather isn't right.
16. Do a treasure hunt
Put yourself in the role of pirates and go on a treasure hunt in the garden or living room! Get mom or dad to make clues with a map to the treasure. If it needs to be challenging, it's an obvious opportunity to make some little competitions as part of getting the clues!
17. Make your own kinetic sand
You will need:
1 small bucket of fine play sand
1 small bucket of flour
3 dl cooking oil or baby oil (or more if the sand feels dry)
How to do it:
Use a large box with a tight-fitting lid to store the sand.
Pour the sand, flour and oil into the box.
Knead the mixture together with your hands – perfect for little children's hands!
Then it's just playing.
18. Do exercise together
Use your child as a weight when doing squats or pelvic lifts. Or start the day with a fun yoga exercise together.
19. Make slime
Use potato starch and household dye to make fun slime for kids to play with.
20. Read a book at the library
Find new exciting books and set goals for how much you want to read together. It is an important part of growing up and can really be a unique addition to family life. Maybe go to the library, where there is a huge selection of books in different categories so the children can practice with you.
21. Paint on canvas or paper
Bob Ross is one of my personal favorites for breaking the fourth wall. Sit down with a canvas and some pencils and be inspired by a unique way of painting with an artist with a big heart who makes painting fun!
22. Fishing trip
If there is a lake nearby or you have access to a boat, you could go fishing. Catching fish can be one of the more interesting activities you can do with your children, if you have a good understanding of the different fish you can possibly teach them about the different fish they can catch! Make no mistake, this is one of those activities for children that can spark many questions!
23. Fly a kite
If a windy day is on the menu, it might be a good idea to build a kite with the little ones, or buy one ready-made. Take the kids on a trip to one of the large hills in the area and let your kite spread its wings.
24. Blow soap bubbles
Sometimes you don't have to invent anything to have fun - if you have a soap bubble mix you can quickly go out and create some bubble trouble with the little ones! A sure winner with the kids!
25. Draw with chalk
Start drawing on the asphalt with crayons. They can do everything from simple drawings to jumping games like hopscotch or small works of art. A classic but always popular activity. Remember to keep an eye out for cars and have an adult with you if you can't do it on the sidewalk.
