Spooky and fun Halloween ideas for kids

It's time for the spookiest weekend of the year – Halloween! At Xplora, we believe that you should celebrate holidays, big and small, and give yourself and your family a little extra fun and enjoyment. We've put together 6 creative ideas for a fun, spooky – but safe – Halloween for kids 🎃👻

1. Turn your home into a haunted house

Dim the lights, light candles and decorate your home like a real haunted house. You can hang fake spider webs, skeletons, ghosts and other spooky decorations to create the right atmosphere. Our favourites are jack-o-lanterns, which give your home the perfect Halloween feel.

Create an atmospheric playlist and make the activities below even more fun – the whole family will love it!

2. Creepy cooking

Baking, cooking or making snacks at home is something most kids love! There is plenty of (un)fun inspiration online for homemade Halloween snacks.

It doesn't have to be difficult – spaghetti can be turned into worms with a little food coloring, and sausages can be turned into bloody fingers with ketchup. Many recipes are so simple that children can help in the kitchen.

Let your imagination run wild – and remember: it can look a little messy! 😋

3. Slimy and clammy creations

Find your creative side and make your own slime – a sure hit with the kids this Halloween!

You will need:

3 dl cold water

2½ tablespoons potato flour

A few drops of oil

A few drops of food coloring

How to do it:

Pour water and potato flour into a saucepan and whisk together. Heat until it becomes a thick mass (it will happen quickly). Remove the saucepan from the heat, add oil and food coloring, and let it cool in the refrigerator.

Voilà – creepy, fun and perfect for Halloween!

4. Carve (or paint) a Halloween pumpkin

A classic that never goes out of style! If the children are small, you can do the cutting while they decorate. Use black or colored cardboard and glue on eyes, teeth and other details. The only limits are your imagination!

If you don't feel like carving the pumpkin, you can paint it instead - just as festive, just a little less messy. 🎨

5. Treasure Hunt in the Dark

Decorate the garden and wait until darkness falls. When the time is right, the children can take flashlights out on an exciting treasure hunt.

With Xplora on your wrist, you can easily keep an eye on your children's whereabouts thanks to the watch's GPS function. If your child leaves the safe zone you've set up in the parent app, you'll be notified immediately.

6. Dress up! 👻

Of course, all of this has to be done in spooky costumes! Dressing up is always fun – and kids love transforming into ghosts, monsters or superheroes. Give them face paint and let them create their own Halloween look.

Even if you're not planning on going to a party or going trick-or-treating, the kids will think it's fun to do something different - and not least, you'll dress up with them!

It doesn't have to be expensive or fancy – an old sheet and a few holes can easily become a classic ghost. 👻
